I will never understand the fundy-prepper fascination with gold. Imagine this scene a few weeks after what preppers call TSHTF (the shits the fan) or TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it).

Fundy prepper: “Hey, you there with the little gun! I’ll give you a gold Krugerrand for that rabbit you just shot.”
Rational prepper: “Er, no thanks but ya’ got any barbecue sauce?”

Gold nuts believe GOLD!! is the answer to all economic and political ills. Allow people to own GOLD!!, they say, and economic oppression and classism will be eliminated. The Fed will be obsolete. Governments will quiver at the strength of the people who own GOLD!! In case of total anarchy, the only useful form of money will be GOLD!! so buy as much as you can now … through our website.

There are some more logical reasons to own gold and silver as a hedge against inflation. But neither one is going to save your ass if some guy decides to take your food stores instead of your cache of gold sovereigns.
