When I was playing in a cover band in upstate NY in the late 70’s, we played a lot of biker bars. Rough crowd. For the first few weeks I was wondering why almost every bar had a “No Coloreds Allowed” sign in the window. Every night I’d be thinking, I can’t keep doing this, it rocks and all, I need the money, but it’s just wrong. I said something to the lead guy, and he just look at me like I was the stupidest motherfucker he’d ever met. “No COLORS allowed. No COLORS”. I was “Huh? Colors?”. “No Hell’s Angel jackets, no Outlaw jackets, NO COLORS YOU STUPID ASSHOLE.”

Oh, OK, I get it now, no gang colors….
