Also- this feeds into the bullshit conflation of religion and the public square. That area is not sacred. It is tragic. God didn’t do anything there and God didn’t have anything to do with what happened. If you say he did then you have to pick which God. The God of the Christians that were killed? The God of the Jews that were killed? The God of the Muslims that were killed? The God that the hijackers did it in the name of? The God of the shintos, the hindus or the buddhists?

It’s a plot of ground that is meaningful. It is not sacred.

Tell that to Giuliani and the WTC cross. The reason that so many Christians think the site, the tragedy, its pain and suffering belongs to them and them alone is because Saint Rudy personally expedited their symbolic claim over it.
