The “cold” in Cold War referred to the fact that the two countries, while engaging in political and economic confrontation, weren’t firing weapons at each other, even if they might use proxies against each other. That term is still valid today as it was then.

It can also be used to describe what is happening here, kind of a Cold Civil War.

Correct. And Putin is a product of that world. Trump isn’t. It’s probably why he’s so easy to play by Putin.
