Isn’t the Holy Sepulchre the church that has had an old wooden ladder stuck on a ledge for like 150 years or more, because none of the various sects who have (even-longer) established rights there have ever decided who has the authority to remove it?
Doesn’t bode well for the spirit of ecumenical cooperation….
Though I agree that having the Israelis take over might not be the best idea.
They could always let the Saudi Royals bid on the management contract. They have a whole bureacracy for keeping the Haj more or less in order. They could set up an infidel subsidiary and register it in Palestine. Business is business, you know.
