Some of the nicest people I know are Republicans. Most of them have developed permanent widening of the eyes as they stare at the state of the party, though.

My experience is the opposite, in that while the Republicans I know are nice, the mental gymnastics they use to ignore/justify the current GOP lunacy is simply staggering.
