If you notice, a lot of places are having all sorts of “sales”, with an additional percentage off all items including sale items.

I like Chicos,and I got an e-mail coupon the other day for 20% off an entire purchase. 20% is huge for non-sale items. I’ve gotten similar offers from Talbots and other places. I wish I needed something! I think retailers are trying to sell things any way they can.

I agree. Massive markdowns and direct mailing of coupons — it’s a little frightening, in a way. If you talk to people in retail or who own a retail business, it’s very scary.

Someone here in economics will know how well this accords (or doesn’t) with economic health, I guess…
