Well, to be fair, there’s more than one type of symbiosis. In addition to parasitism (symbiont benefits at host’s expense), there’s also commensalism (symbiont benefits without harming host), and mutualism (both benefit).

But yeah, that was an unbelievably stupid thing for him to say. Even if he believes it, he shouldn’t be that stupid.
