re: #79 Whack-A-Mole

Off topic, I could use a spot of advice.

I didn’t feel well today but ended up going into work anyways. This afternoon I texted my boss (who is the only one trained to fill in for me) a heads up that I wasn’t feeling well and, if I still felt sick tomorrow morning that I would be calling in.

She sent back a text that read:
“I’m sorry to hear that. Hope it gets better because I have multiple meetings tomorrow and in between need to get people in for interviews”

Is she simply saying she hopes I don’t have to call in and mess up her day or is she basically saying “f*** you, I don’t care how you feel, you need to work anyways”. To me, it feels like the latter but, feeling like crap, I don’t really trust my objectivity here.

When I ran into her later this afternoon, the only thing she said to me was “Get some rest” and kept walking.

(For the record, either way I’m kind of pissed - I’m a good employee. I show up early every day, do everything that’s asked of me, and I have never called in sick before in the 4 months I’ve worked there. In my opinion, any response to me calling in sick for the first time other than “okay, we’ve got you covered” is kind of BS.)

Sounds like she is expecting you to work no matter what. The fact you are new to the job might also mean you haven’t worked long enough to get away with being sick.

Pretty much sucks, but that is how a lot of bosses think. You always need to prove yourself.

Sorry to hear it. Good luck and I hope it all works out. And I hope you feel better.
