re: #80 Belafon

I agree. I wasn’t advocating running to the first local bank and opening an account. My local bank covers the eastern third of Texas, so I’ve got multiple branches, online access. It’s good about monitoring for fraudulent charges. It also has hours 7 days a week. But, if you’ve only got a little money, you might find what you need in a smaller one. As for debit cards, you just really can’t operate in the area I’m in without having one.

I find most places are perfectly happy to deal with credit cards instead of debit cards and we treat them as the same thing in our house. I just prefer the extra layer of buffer between my bank account and the merchant, because fraudulent charges are a thing that happens and I would prefer to catch them before the money is withdrawn from my account.

I realize that’s not feasible for everyone for a variety of reasons, but that’s why I don’t use debit cards.
