re: #73 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus
I’ve pondered going back to school to get a Ph.D., but I think I just don’t have the heart to make it through all the academic hoops anymore:
He always wanted a Ph.D. in physics. He finally earned it at 89
The difficulty of doing physics is, well, it’s hard.
Upper level E&M is torture. Relativity is torture. Quantum Mechanics is not so tortuous as long as you don’t expect your intution to be of use.
And then the specialty fields for a Ph.D. - all make my brain hurt. Conceivably I could do it with enough pain, but again, I’m not sure I have the heart to work through the thousands of hours of problem solving to prepare to pass the qualifying exams.
But I admire people who follow their dreams.
I ponder, seriously, of going back and finishing my undergraduate studies at least. Paleoanthropology. It’s a great, interesting, field these days.
