re: #68 Shiplord Kirel

The key to this is Belien’s, and the Eurofascists’, associated crusade against “secular humanism.” We have heard this kind of rhetoric before, in a place far different from Brussels and from people who have probably never heard of VB but who are nevertheless its allies and soul-mates. In terms of overall global cultural trends, these crypto-fascists forces are of a piece with the Young Earth Creationists on the Texas school board and the antiscience movement in general. It is about rolling back the Enlightenment and all the gains of the last 2 centuries, and is therefore profoundly inimical to American principle.

The picture is beginning to come together.

To me, their worldview is crazytown. I fight Islamism to defend secular humanism from theocratic encroachment.

I acknowledge the Judeo-Christian influence/component on our civilization without using that acknowledgement as a rationale for taking us back to 17th century Massachussetts.

While I (famously) decry public extreme “libertinism,” I defend with my last breath the right to private “libertinism,” or asceticism or anything else.

Using the anti-Islam movement to promote right-wing/religious anti-sexual-freedom is another incomprehensible triangulation, as far as I can see.
