I’d argue it’s because, by this point, all their “solutions” have been tried and failed spectacularly. The Ryan Plan is basically everything they’ve tried over the past 4 decades, crammed into one unsavory package and sold as a “cure-all.”
That’s part of it there’s also things like Romney’s Healthcare plan that became the model for national healthcare reform. Once Obama adopted it conservatives opposed it. Also TARP was a necessary program started under Bush to save the economy from certain ruin. Only When Obama continued to idea did Republicans oppose it. They have/had workable solutions but abandoned them when the Dems adopted them to help the country.
