Well Buck is right to dismiss your presumption that Judaism came from outside and was in conflict with other religions. Judaism is rather a monotheistic evolution of the Canaanite religion that had existed there already. Due to various historical events, the Babylonian exile being notable, one sect became dominant to the exclusion of other gods in the pantheon.
