Either you forgot a sarcasm tag, or you’re unaware of the many connections between that event’s sponsors (ISNA and MSA) and terrorism.

Indeed. I clicked that link, and went on to the event’s link, with the hope that I’d see moderate Islam adapting to Western modernity.

No mention of patriotism. No mention of separation between state and church (or temple, mosque, sacred grove, etc). No mention of the right of individuals to practice the faith of their choice (or none).

I continue to hope for a moderate Islam that is compatible with democratic pluralism. However, hopes are not outcomes. I wonder if practitioners of taqqiya say ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ in the same sense that they say ‘religion of peace’.
