Come to think of it, on this swearing thing, there’s the true but often ignored aphorism that politicians swear on the Bible to defend the Constitution, not the other way around. So why not cut out the extraneous literature and just swear on the Constitution to begin with?

Either that, or when the Chief Justice or whoever says “Do you solemnly swear to blah-blah-blah,” you flat-out go ahead and do it: “Fuckin A.”

I like that. No books. Just “I swear to uphold the constitution.” Period.
