No direct border link with Syria, and Egypt hasn’t let through the kinds of materials that Hamas wants for Gaza. Hamas thugs are feted in Damascus, and only barely tolerated in Egypt, which is trying to make a deal to secure the release of Shalit.

Egypt wants nothing to do with Gaza, which has been its position since the days of Camp David (they refused to take it as part of the return of Sinai). Can’t say I’d blame Egypt either. No one wants to deal with that radicalized mess.
