This was one of the main arguments against the EU throughout Europe - that it would seek to become an Empire, rather than a Republic.

Didn’t take long for that to play out.

To be fair, the EU has a point: If they’re going to bail Greece out, they should have the right to make sure that the unions get reigned in. In many ways, I’d rather the EU took control of Greece’s budget. Cuts to the unions could be made by people not accountable to the unions membership in a process similar to a bankruptcy.
