re: #840 Alouette

This one is a hoot:

One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America’s nuclear power plants.

NYC, Boston, SF, and DC would all be returned to wetlands (since much of those cities are built on reclaimed wetlands).

Actually, returning DC to wetlands isn’t such a bad idea. /

Decommissioning all nuclear power plants? That’s just pie in the sky wishful thinking that can’t be done unless some new power source can provide 24/7/365 power generation on the same size footprint. Solar, wind, and geothermal can’t do it. Hydropower could, but they’re opposed to that too.

Free college education? I’m all for that. How do you pay for the professors and academic institutions though.

Trillion dollars on infrastructure upgrades/improvement - not sure about the dollar amount, but infrastructure upgrades/improvements would not only be a jobs motivator, but would have long lasting effect on economy decades down the line (think canals in late 18th century, railroad construction during 19th century, highways/electrification in 20th).

A whole lot of the infrastructure built at the turn of the last century needs to be replaced/upgraded/maintained in the current century. That’s a whole lot of jobs.

Racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Laws are already on the books for that - but better enforcement would go a long way.
