To be fair…AQ did not exist at the time of the bombing in Beirut and the people involved were Shiites allied with Iran. It made no tactical or strategic sense to leave people there to be blown up.

I didn’t say AQ had anything to do with it. And it had made no tactical or strategic sense to be there in the first place.

My point is that it is popular on the Right to point to the deaths of 4 in Benghazi, or 18 in Mogadishu and say these embolden AQ, while ignoring the elephant in the room - the ineffectual response to, and rapid withdrawal after the Beirut Barracks bombing.
