Number three on that list is often neglected and super-important. There are thought patterns and learned behaviors that don’t rise to the level of life-affecting pathology—mental illness in the according-to-Hoyle sense—that mess people up.

It’s the shoal I run aground on: there’s not really a way to “fix” shitty culture. Stupid power fantasies, masculinity equaling aggression, honor cultures that demand retaliation for slights…really obvious shitty ideas that propagate violence…we can’t control the circulation of those concepts. In this day and age, acquisition of -bullshit- is even easier; people can self-educate, actively curate their world to listen to who they want.
