I’ve never told anyone this outside of meatspace friends and the family who know, but I underwent the same rigors and rituals - but it was a religiously indoctrinated version, co-opted by an evangelical sect to infuse their young boys/men with religious fervor as well as outdoorsman skills. So while I’m the equivalent of an Eagle Scout, the BSA would never recognize me as such.

I was never a scout, but I caught a bluegill in the Wisconsin woods. My uncle showed me how to clean it (by cleaning the ones he caught). I cleaned it and ate it. And I hit the paper plate stuck on a tree, with a BB gun, first try.
