Right, but I still think a charismatic enough person can brand himself and act enough like an everyman in his public appearances while still working very intelligently behind the scenes to achieve whatever agenda may be at hand.

The thing is that while we have to be careful (see Trump getting more votes than the first time he ran), we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be frightened of the idea of the “Perfect Fascist” without any evidence that there actually can be a person who can somehow behave like a boorish boob in public to such a perfect degree that his boobery is embraced by the “common clay” while at the still time being able to behave like a master planning.

In the wake of WW2 we assumed the Nazis were this well oiled machine of conquest and warfare, but as we dug deeper it turned out they were pretty much all just a bunch of crazy idiots.

Fascism is an ideology about making the weak look strong via brutality, so it tends to attract the weak and pathetic.
