No, it’s an understandable cultural thing, like female circumcision and stoning gays. You’re looking at this through western eyes instead of trying to understand Yemeni culture.

To take that argument seriously for a second:
Sikh’s also have a religious duty to wear a dagger, a Kirpan.
They deal with this, in the west, by wearing a very tiny one a few inches long, usually made of wood. Others who prefer to wear a more traditional one modify their behavior so as not to cause trouble, because they understand that this particular religious observance can worry others.
What they don’t do: Carry big honking daggers while claiming to be peace activists while running a blockade.
