There’s always a home team bounce.

But Buzzfeed Gawker noted one curious thing:

Vic Wild competed for Russia. He won 2 gold medals. He was born, raised, and lives in Washington state. He got married to a Russian athlete and decided to compete for Russia because the US didn’t want to give his particular discipline sufficient funding/coaching. He went where the money was.

The medal count irony. Had the US given Wild the funding/backing he thought he needed, the US would have been the overall medal leader, and would have had 29 medals total, versus 27 for Russia. What we got? 29 medals for Russia, 27 for the US.
