Another alternative. Though I tend to not like the idea of abstaining or actively trying to convince voters from abstaining. A third alternative would be protest votes for third party candidates

My wife went round town in the last election encouraging embarrassed Republicans to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson (he drew three votes here).

My position is a little trickier as a trustee: While it is acceptable for me to plump for my preferred candidate (Mrs. Clinton), it would be unethical of me to actively encourage people not to vote.
