Amazing ignorance in picking candidates for positions. Many felt selecting a businessman for public office was a good idea, especially because he was an outsider. This belies the base rationale behind it: government sucks.

Imagine you are selecting a plumber to perform work in your house: how about I hire my waiter at my favorite restaurant.

Need electrical work? I think I’ll hire my dog walker.

Need brain surgery? Let’s hire a secretary from HUD.

None of this makes any sense unless you’re operating from a rationale of desperation and fear, if not hate.
