When the world looked around after World War 2, the only major power that was not smashed into rubble was the United States. At that moment, we were effectively and empire (even if we didn’t call ourselves such).

The neocon dream of the 90’s was that brief moment directly after the collapse of the USSR and before the rise of China as a global economic power when they saw the fata morgana of an opportunity to turn the American Century into the American Millennium and consolidate our power once and for all.

We are still living with the consequences of those failed decisions.
