re: #83 iceweasel

I think this goes to the heart of the matter— ‘atheism’ doesn’t have to mean anti-religion, just ‘without gods’— but for people who are ex-catholics, or ex-christians, or whatever, they might have an antireligious bias that atheism alone doesn’t convey or connote.
I can see an argument made for ‘antireligion’ being separate from ‘atheism’ — if that makes sense. i need more coffee!—

Anti-theists are all atheists; most atheists are not anti-theists.

But all of us are an existential threat: We exist amongst religious people with lower crime rates, lower divorce rates, lower incarceration rates. That is a direct repudiation of the idea you must have a text telling you how to be moral, or every sex act with your spouse must include a voyeur in your bedroom.

The usual counter-apologetics argument goes something like “you are an atheist about every god which was ever proposed except the one you believe in—I just don’t believe in yours either.”

No Christian in the United States worries about Kali-ma, possession by jinn, being reincarnated as a goat, or any other assertion of any other religious faith.
