I got busted by a speed trap once, was doing 50 in a 35 on a stretch of back road at like 4 in the morning. As soon as I saw the cop, I pulled over and got out my license and registration. The cop barely turned on his lights and didn’t even move his car. He came over said, “Well, I guess you know what you were doing?” “Yup, here’s my stuff.” He comes back a minute later and tells me, “Had to run you to check for warrants, but you didn’t try to lie and you didn’t make me chase you. Slow down and have a good morning.” I went on my merry way with no harm and no foul.

The lesson: Don’t mess with a cop and they won’t mess with you. And I learned that without having a Harvard education.
