How do you explain why you refuse to wear a seat belt to the police?
And do they accept your reasons?
See, that’s where it usually goes downhill.
cop: “Why are you not wearing your seatbelt?”
me: “None of your business”
In Indiana it’s a $25 fine, no points and no reporting to your insurance agency. If it’s a state trooper they usually don’t say or ask anything. They’ll just tell you why they pulled you over, hand you a ticket and send you on your way. It’s generally city officers who want to search your vehicle and ask you questions they don’t have the right to ask.
