Great Diane Rehm segment today on the Violence Against Women Act. There have been a number of shows recently where Rehm and her other guests have just let the Republican talking head go on unchallenged. While not completely over-the-top (Phyllis Schlafly’s performance last month was one for the ages), Charlotte Hays did reveal a great deal of the Republican mindset: these issues are more appropriately dealt with at the local level; rape is now too broadly defined; protective orders can be too easy to obtain; heightened focus on highly-vulnerable communities (foreign domestic workers, Native American women, et al.) is problematic; and on and on.
