I went shopping today and asked the checkout clerk “Do you have to work tomorrow?” She made a face and said yes, she had to work.

I said, “But you’re getting overtime pay, aren’t you?”

She said she was getting time and a half.

I didn’t ask if she was given a choice to have the day off, or now. But time and a half is still better than Walmart.

Most retail don’t get a choice. Sometimes it’s up to the scheduling manager. My last job, we had to choose 2 of the three holiday’s and eve’s, xmas, thanksgiving and new years. The manager would announce when she would post the sign-up sheet and if you didn’t get there in time, you got what what you got.
