again, that seems unfairly presumptuous. we have a choice to make. we can either choose to believe that a person is honestly attempting to argue their position in good faith, and that they do not believe the bad thing that came to your mind…

…or we can just assume that they are not being honest about a personal belief.

You’ll never be able to prove it either way. It sure seems friendlier to take someone at their word when they say “I do not hate X”. The article/post which brought it to mind can still be heavily debated, but once we assume someone is lying about something so personal, we’ve cut off the debate in a quite uncivil manner.
