The Fallujah insurgents were Sunnis, if I recall…loyal to Saddam’s regime. It was a major fuckup on the part of the “contractors” getting off course and driving through town, but that doesn’t excuse the ensuing bloodbath. It was a tragedy, period.

The major fuck up was Paul Bremer’s decision to disband the Iraqi army, sending hundreds of thousands of men home who were armed, trained, pissed off and still needing to put food on the table. Bremer helped to create an ideal environment in which to incubate an insurgency.
