Trees here generally “explode” when struck by lightning.

Pretty sure it works the same way in most of forests in this hemisphere.

Closest I have ever been to an exploding tree is about a quarter of a mile. Lightning hit a maybe 30 or 40 foot pine tree. I was inside with windows closed and dang it was LOUD. Next day went looking for it - it was pretty obvious which tree got ‘sploded. But what do I know - maybe it exploded cuz nobody had been raking the woods near that tree.
