Did I tell you all about EMD’s GP49?

Fairly unique locomotive…only nine of them built by EMD- all of them sold to the Alaska Railway (the high-hood GP39X’s built for Southern Railway and later rebuilt to GP49 specs don’t count). Apparently the Alaska RR retired remainder of the GP49s late last year and sold them to Helm leasing….

More recently, they’re retiring the fleet of Budd RDC self-propelled railcars and MP15DC 1500HP switchers.

The Buddliners would be of great historical interest (and still practical on some passenger routes) while the MP15DCs would be quite useful to any short-haul, switching or transfer railway.

/Will Sarah Palin be putting them on eBay?
