Yes, it was a disaster using all available hindsight. On the pro side, there’s precedence. On the con side, there’s really bad, measurable side-effects.

I think the whole illegal alien debate can be summed up in one sentence. “What is so broken that people can’t go through legal immigration and why can’t we reform that?”
