In addition to the Boswell Sisters’ #1 hit, “The Object of My Affection” in 1935, there’s this one from the 1934 film, Transatlantic Merry-Go-Round, using a term not widely used until the 50s. It’s said that the Andrew Sisters imitated their style, as well.

I have been humbled. I thought I had a pretty good knowledge of early jazz, but I had never heard of the Boswells till now. They’re great! I read the WIkipedia entry about them, and Connee was one of Ella Fitzgerald’s influences. I bet my parents heard their music on the radio box.
