A stack of side notes on Swedish Rape statistics:

a) In ‘05, the law was changed so that sexual intercourse with a minor became rape of a minor, similar to statutory rape in the U.S., causing an increase in the stats which isn’t real.
b) In Sweden, every sexual counts in a sexual assault trial, meaning that if a perp forces a victim to do 3 different things, it is 3 counts in the stats and in the court. Other jurisdictions often lump together rapes in stats and court. Another peculiarity of Swedish law is that the perp doesn’t have to be a participant in the sex.
c) The tendency to file charges for sex crimes is slightly higher in Sweden than elsewhere, like if other places have a 1:9 iceberg ratio, the Swedish is closer to 1:8.

These three factors combine to make Swedish sex crime stats seem worse than they really are.
