No, not really once you’re past Sunday school. Prayer is half meditation and half conversation ( remember Tevye the Dairyman) and half thankfulness for everything that is, good bad or indifferent.

Wasn’t Tevye the Dairyman a fictional Jewish character in a story written in the XIX Century, adapted as “Fiddler on the Roof?”

My comment on prayer was Christian prayer.

Do some Christians think of prayer that way? Sure, I guess.

How many churches of all denominations call for God to inspire or bring about the conversion of the whole world (as interpreted by them of course)? Wouldn’t that be “telling God how to do his job?” Or prayer to spare those in the path of a hurricane (when not praying to divert a hurricane)? If it’s God’s will someone should die in a horrible storm, why are prayers offered to change his mind?
