Texas cut fire department funding by 75 percent this year

Sorry but what we are seeing here is exactly the same as what the main page is commenting on…..a whole lot of shrieking and distortion without the facts. The program cut was a grant program. It was cut by 23 million. There are over 1000 locally run fire departments in the state. If you do the math it is a $19,500 cut per department. In the city in Texas I live, which is about 30,000 people so small, our volunteer fire department budget funded by the city is $1.8 million so the grant aid cuts represent a loss of 1%. I am on the city council and we are going to cut our own fire budget by more than that. And the program cut was for equipment and doesn’t enact until 2012. As anyone knows who reads these pages, I am not a Rick Perry fan but in this case, lets try facts.
