I think some nominally heterosexual men try to imagine what it would be like to be a gay man showering with other men. What they come up with is what it would be like for THEM to be showering with women, and that would be a big problem. What they do not go on to consider is this - most of us gay men have had the shower experience in high school. We know what naked male bodies look like, and how to refrain from improper social interaction with them.

The cartoonist Eric Orner addressed this years ago, when his character Ethan Green is in the barracks shower. In response to a taunt from a straight guy, he replies, “I would not touch you if you were the last gap-toothed, whale-bellied, pimple-butted, yellow-toenailed straight boy on Earth, which you are, sadly, not.” and goes on showering.

Last panel, straight guy is heard off-panel, “Sarge! The gay guy is making fun of my physique again!”
