I can understand why he wanted limited but why not have aggressive security for the compounds. I can not stress enoough that Benghazi was far from safe and is an active extremist zone.

As I recall Stevens was in town for some sort of joint Libyan / Harvard uni event. The buildings attacked were actually more temporary homes / missions, and were never intended to be more than that (it wasn’t actually one of our official consulates), and lacked the security features of real consulates & of course the heavily fortified embassy.
