re: #68 I cannot.

At risk for WHAT?! I say this as someone who usually sleeps on a recliner…

Depending on factors (particularly age, (but other factors like diabetes, nutrition, or neuro status also apply) the circulation under your skin starts to weaken. That makes your skin vulnerable to pressure. When you sit up for extended periods of time, you put a lot of weight on your sacrum and that squeezes blood away from the skin. You may notice a burning sensation on you backside if you’re overdoing it. If you have a companion, have that person poke the skin at the top of your butt cheeks and cleft with a fingertip. Normally that will leave a white spot that goes back to pink within a second or two. That the blood moving away from the finger poke and refilling the spot that the pressure pushed away.
I interrupt this message to report to MrsJ that there is a pair of legs sticking out of April’s hoochie.
But if you have reddened skin that doesn’t turn white when you poke it, that means the blood isn’t moving around, and that is actually a Stage I pressure sore.
The best prevention measures are adequate nutrition, hydration, and off loading. By off loading I mean changes of position to give the vulnerable areas of your skin a break.

Your skin may well tolerate extended recliner time. So don’t necessarily take this as a rebuke to your personal habits. It’s sort of a shout out to lizards with relatives who are elderly and more sedentary and otherwise vulnerable to skin breakdowns.
