That said, I separate them into small “l” (those who hold libertarian principles regardless of party) and large “L” (those who are members of the Libertarian Party).

The LP itself doesn’t give a hoot about things such whether a woman gets an abortion or two people of the same sex want to marry (as long as they don’t have to pay for it).

My wife made a gradual slide out of the LP and into liberal positions (I corrupted her). Leaning on her as the only LP member I ever met (that I am aware of), she calls Republicans poseurs (because of their social conservative positions such as trying to force creationism into schools and regulating women’s ladybits).

Gary Johnson is a Republican and a big L ibertarian who, one year when he was not the nominee, voted for Chuck Baldwin for president, showing everyone who he is, politically.
