Years ago I was thinking of going for a GIA certification - this was before such things became a sort of marketing gimmick ala the degree/certificate of the month edu-scam that these things are today.

Anyway, mineralogy and gemology are fascinating and a truly unique and well crafted piece of jewelry is one of those art forms that can last and be appreciated for millennia.
