I would prefer a commander-in-chief that respected the military that serves voluntarily under the command of the civilian government.

There has been no Republican president in my lifetime that respected the men and women over whom he had the authority to order into battle and die. None of them. (Well, Eisenhower, but I was an infant in his presidency.)
