Same goes for the transporter. In theory, every time there was a real problem for the away team, all they should have had to do was “beam them up.”

In practice of the show, the transporter seemed to break down every other episode, based on the ground situation.

Let’s not forget the holodeck, which was guaranteed to break in some way that either meant it couldn’t be shut down, the people inside couldn’t escape, or that the “safety protocols” would go offline to put the occupants in mortal danger.
