I think most sex scandals died circa 1999. There has to be an aggravating circumstance for it to really take hold. Like an anti-gay Senator trolling airport bathrooms or a governor hiking the Appalachian trail.
I’d agree in principle, but even in the case of the latter we’ve seen that it’s not political death so much anymore as Mark was able to not only revive his career, but parlay it into an even higher office. Hell, even thought Newt is gone from Congress, he’s still running around selling himself as the “elder statesman voice of reason” to the press who readily book him.
